PV Powered Exceeds Production Goals; Announces New Lower Prices
Bend, Oregon - October 12, 2004

Bill Taylor, President of US-made inverter manufacturer PV Powered announced today new, lower prices on the company's StarInverter 1800 and 2800 watt utility-interactive photovoltaic inverters. This marks the second price reduction this year on the company's popular StarInverter series.

"We have enjoyed rapid acceptance of our StarInverter series across the US solar energy markets this year. Because of this, we've gained additional economies-of-scale in our production. PV Powered wants to say 'thank you' to our dealers and installers in a meaningful way, by lowering the prices of our two most popular models." Taylor went on to say, "We are keenly aware that our customers have helped us reach our goals this year. With PV prices going up and some solar rebates likely to be reduced at year-end, we feel this is a perfect time to support our customers' efforts. We'll pass our savings along and give them the help they deserve."

PV Powered brings together America's most experienced power electronics design team with more than 80 years of combined experience. Working together for over 15 years, this team has designed, developed and deployed large photovoltaic and wind turbine inverters from 1.1Kw to 7Mw in size. To date, the teams' installations account for more than 2 Gw of clean, green electricity generation.

Brian Dupin, PV Powered's Director of Sales, commented: "We began four years ago with a clean sheet of paper and designed the StarInverter series. Based on revolutionary architecture, the StarInverter has the lowest parts-count of any UL-listed inverter - 300 fewer parts than our offshore rivals. This means our customers get an inverter with the highest reliability of any product on the market. Our inverter was designed with a life span to match that of PV panels. That's why we can back the StarInverter with an unprecedented 10-year warranty."

"Two weeks ago, inverter manufacturers met with the California Energy Commission to discuss inverter efficiency testing standards and how to apply those to eligible PV equipment sold in California," Taylor said. "All manufacturers in attendance agreed that efficiency is not an effective way to determine consumer rebate dollars. Therefore, the CEC will likely drop that measurement in the near future and concentrate on 'actual' continuous power ratings to include thermal fold-back penalties and peak-power-tracking capabilities. Since most manufacturers overstate their continuous power ratings, we welcome the scrutiny and fully support this effort. We challenge our offshore competitors to achieve the performance levels that PV Powered products now mark as the industry standard."

Dupin goes on to say, "Our dealer/installers have found that PV Powered inverters provide the greatest energy-harvest from an array. No thermal fold-back and no moving parts or fans - the lowest price-per-continuous watt of any inverter in the industry! I believe this is one of the reasons our StarInverter series has become 'best-in-class', and has made such in-roads into the market so quickly."

Headquartered in Bend, Oregon, PV Powered designs, manufacturers and markets its StarInverter product line through North America's leading RE distributors: Energy Outfitters, Solar Depot, DC Power and SunWize Technologies.
